Welcome to Petrograd 1917!

It is March 1917, and the Russian Empire is entering a whirlwind of change. The unpopular Tsar has just been overthrown. Power now belongs to the Provisional Government on one hand, and the Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies on the other. How will the new political order confront the devastation of war and the economic crisis? What is the future for democracy in Russia?

Play as the Mensheviks, Socialist-Revolutionaries, Kadets, or Bolsheviks, and steer the revolution to victory or collapse.

If you played the Spring Thing version before it was made public on itch.io, here are some changes:

• Bolsheviks are now playable, if you’ve finished the game once as another party!
• Many bugs have been fixed.
• Mensheviks and SRs can now have party splits and more consequences for dissent.
• Petrograd Soviet leadership elections
• Parliament graphics for Constituent Assembly and Petrograd Soviet elections.
• Sufficiently left-wing SRs can join Bolsheviks in the uprising.
• A couple pieces of new music.
• More options in general

There are probably still lots of bugs; please let me know if you encounter any!

Here are some future changes planned:

• A “real” Kornilov coup instead of just the “Kornilov affair”, which the Kadets (or Savinkov-led Right-SRs) may support.
• More dynamics within the parties (they might be able to split or change policies even if you aren’t playing as them). Influencing the other parties via certain means.
• More events: Ukrainian Central Rada, Moscow State Conference, City Duma elections, Democratic Conference.
• More options for moderate Bolshevisks.
• Minority nationality affairs. More civil rights policies.
• More advisors for all the parties.
• Actual peace negotiations, not just ceasefire negotiations.
• Menshevik-Bolshevik reunification
• Graphs for party support, economic stats, etc. (I know how much you all love graphs!)
• Downloadable version and mobile version
• Of course, bug fixing.

In the long term (i.e., not this month), I hope to implement:

• Turn-based multiplayer
• Playing into the Civil War or the Constituent Assembly
